No Rabies

Good news. The bat that Marcus had to FedEx to the OSU Vet Diagnostic Lab yesterday came back with a negative result.

  1. What happened? I don't know anything about a bay story.

  2. Well, yesterday morning Bunny found an injured bat in the barn. Yada, yada, yada...the bat didn't have rabies so nothing to worry about :)

  3. Ok...enough suspense. Bunny found the bat in the barn - it had been injured/caught by our adopted stray cat. Becky suggested that we hold on to the bat so we could send it off for testing. If the bat had rabies then our options were to quarantine the cat for 180 days or euthanize it. Now, I'm going to try and get her in a kitty carrier and take her to the vet for vaccinations. She's just a stray (and they only seem to stick around our house for a few months), but the cost of a rabies vaccine is cheaper than either a rabies test or putting it to sleep. Plus, she's a REALLY good mouser and a sweetheart.
